VERSATILE BY DESIGN
A Straight Stair Lift for More Specialized Needs
Most customers can be well served by a conventional straight stair lift. But some situations require greater flexibility.
The Handicare 1000 offers a range of configurations designed to accommodate different mobility needs and installation requirements. These include higher weight capacities, alternative seating positions and powered options.
Its slim aluminum rail also conceals the drive rack inside the track, creating a clean appearance while taking up relatively little space on the staircase. The rail has a minimum staircase intrusion of approximately 4½ inches.
Rather than recommending the 1000 simply because it offers more options, we generally consider it when one of those additional capabilities provides a genuine benefit to the person using the lift.
MORE WAYS TO FIND THE RIGHT FIT
Designed for a Wider Range of Needs
Higher Weight Capacity
The standard Handicare 1000 supports up to 350 lb, while the 1000XXL increases the maximum capacity to 440 lb for customers who require additional capacity.
Alternative Seating
The optional Perch Seat provides a more upright travelling position for suitable users who have difficulty bending their knees or hips sufficiently for a conventional stair-lift seat.
Powered Options
Optional powered swivel and powered footplate functions can reduce the physical effort required when getting on, getting off and folding the stair lift after use.
Slim Rail Design
The anodized aluminum rail conceals the geared drive rack inside the track and requires as little as approximately 4½ inches of staircase space.
WHEN ADDITIONAL CAPACITY IS NEEDED
Up to 440 lb Weight Capacity
The standard Handicare 1000 has a maximum weight capacity of 350 lb, making it suitable for a wide range of users.
For customers who require additional capacity, the Handicare 1000XXL increases the maximum rated capacity to 440 lb.
Weight capacity alone doesn’t determine whether a stair lift is suitable. Available seat width, staircase dimensions and, most importantly, the user’s ability to sit comfortably and transfer safely onto and off the lift also need to be considered.
During your home survey, we’ll assess these factors and recommend an appropriate configuration for both the user and staircase.
AN ALTERNATIVE SEATING POSITION
When Bending the Knees or Hips Is Difficult
A conventional stair-lift seat requires the user to bend their knees and hips while travelling. For some people, that position can be uncomfortable or difficult to achieve.
The optional Perch Seat allows a suitable user to travel in a more upright, partially supported position, reducing the amount of knee and hip flexion required. Handicare specifically designed this option for users with limited hip or knee flexibility.
A Perch Seat isn’t suitable for everyone. The user needs to be able to maintain an appropriate position while travelling and transfer safely onto and off the lift.
We’ll assess this during the home survey before recommending a Perch configuration.
ADDITIONAL ASSISTANCE
Options to Make Everyday Use Easier
Powered Swivel Seat
At the upper landing, the optional powered swivel turns the seat toward the landing without requiring the user to operate the swivel manually.
This can be particularly useful for someone who has difficulty turning the seat themselves.
Powered Footplate
The optional powered footplate reduces the need to bend down when folding or unfolding the stair lift.
This can be useful when reaching the footplate manually would be difficult or uncomfortable.
During your home survey, we’ll consider how the person will actually use the stair lift and explain whether either powered option would provide a worthwhile benefit.
WHEN LOWER-LANDING SPACE IS LIMITED
Keeping Doorways & Walkways Clear
A straight stair-lift rail normally extends beyond the bottom step. If there’s a doorway or walkway close to the staircase, that extension can sometimes create an obstruction.
The Handicare 1000 can be fitted with a folding rail, allowing the lower section of track to be moved away when the stair lift isn’t being used.
Both manual and powered folding-rail configurations are available.
We’ll measure the lower landing during your home survey and recommend a folding rail only where the standard track would create a practical obstruction.
NEED A LIFT OUTSIDE?
The Handicare 1000 Is Also Available for Outdoor Staircases
A dedicated outdoor version of the Handicare 1000 is available for straight exterior staircases.
The outdoor model incorporates weatherproofing and UV protection designed for exposure to the elements and is supplied with a waterproof cover.
For outdoor installations, we’ll also consider the staircase location, exposure to the weather, electrical supply and other factors that can affect long-term reliability.

★★★★★
After taking measurements of the stairs, he proceeded to install the stairlift the next day. The service was excellent, and I wholeheartedly recommend it. He was sensitive to your needs and was concerned about your well-being. I tried a couple of Stairlift companies but didn’t get fruitful results. But Florida Home Access LLC never failed to amaze me.

CHOOSING THE RIGHT LIFT
When We Recommend the Handicare 1000 Stair Lift
Every staircase and every customer is different. The Handicare 1000 is an excellent straight stair lift, but another model may sometimes be a better fit.
A GOOD CHOICE IF…
You need a higher weight capacity
The standard 1000 supports up to 350 lb, while the 1000XXL provides a higher-capacity solution for users weighing up to 440 lb.
Bending your knees or hips is difficult
The optional Perch Seat provides an alternative travelling position for suitable users who have difficulty sitting comfortably on a conventional stair-lift seat.
You need powered assistance
Powered swivel and powered footplate options can make everyday operation easier for users who would find the manual functions difficult.
You have very limited staircase space
The slim aluminum rail and hidden gear rack allow the track to occupy relatively little space on the staircase.
You need a more specialized configuration
The 1000’s range of seating, capacity and rail options makes it particularly useful where a conventional straight stair lift doesn’t provide the right solution.
ANOTHER OPTION MAY BE BETTER IF…
Your priority is value for money
For a straightforward indoor installation, the Pilot Aviator generally provides excellent standard equipment and a 350 lb capacity at a lower overall cost.
Flexible parking is important
The Atlas 500 offers extended charging areas, while the Handicare 1100 provides continuous charging anywhere along the rail.
You prefer a lubricant-free drive
The Atlas 500 and Handicare 1100 use alternative drive systems that don’t require a conventional lubricated geared rack.
COMMON QUESTIONS
Questions About This Stair Lift
Here are answers to some of the questions customers commonly ask when considering this stair lift.
What is the weight capacity of the Handicare 1000?

The Perch Seat allows a suitable user to travel in a more upright position with less bending at the knees and hips. It can be useful for people who have difficulty comfortably using a conventional seated stair lift.
Does the Handicare 1000 have a powered swivel?
Yes. A powered swivel is available as an option and turns the seat toward the upper landing without requiring the user to swivel it manually.
Is a powered footplate available?
Yes. A powered footplate is currently available as an option and can reduce the need to bend down when folding or unfolding the stair lift.
Can the Handicare 1000 have a folding rail?

Does the Handicare 1000 attach to the wall?
