★★★★★ Google review

Florida Home Access installed our exterior stair lift and Andrew Scothern was extremely helpful every step of the way.
The system we originally selected was continuous, up the stairs to a landing, turning and continuing to the top. This was 6-8 weeks which we planned to do. Two weeks later, due to health reasons the need for another option was a necessity. Andrew suggested a two chair option that he could put in the following week when parts arrived. Andrew moved quickly on it for us and that was the best decision. He had the chair installed, explained to us how to operate and that was it
He’s very knowledgeable and a clean installation was completed in less than a day. I would recommend Andrew and Florida Home Access if you looking to install a stair chair.
He’s awesome!!

IS THIS THE RIGHT FIT?

Is the Pilot Aviator Outdoor Right for You?

The Pilot Aviator Outdoor is an excellent choice for many straight exterior staircases, but every property and customer’s needs are different. Here’s when we’d recommend it and when another outdoor stair lift might be more suitable.

A GOOD CHOICE IF…

You want an affordable outdoor stair lift

The Aviator Outdoor offers a practical, economical solution for accessing raised entrances, patios and decks.

Your outdoor staircase is straight

It’s designed for straight staircases without turns or intermediate landings that require a curved rail.

You want simple, comfortable operation

Straightforward controls and comfortable seating with a choice of colors make it suitable for everyday use.

You prefer a practical solution without expensive extras

The Aviator Outdoor focuses on essential functionality rather than premium convenience features.

ANOTHER OPTION MAY SUIT YOU BETTER IF…

t

Your outdoor staircase has turns or intermediate landings

The Handicare 4000 Outdoor offers a custom curved rail designed to accommodate bends, turns and more complex staircase layouts.

t

You prefer a premium outdoor stair lift

The Handicare 1000 Outdoor is worth considering if you prefer a premium model. We’ll explain the differences in design, features and pricing so you can make an informed decision.

t

You have limited space at the bottom of the staircase

The Handicare 4000 outdoor stair lift may provide a better solution, even on a straight staircase. A custom rail with a 90° or 180° parking turn can position the lift away from a doorway, walkway or restricted lower landing.

t

Long-term appearance is particularly important to you

In our experience, the Handicare 1000 Outdoor tends to retain its cosmetic appearance better over time, making it worth considering for customers who place a higher priority on long-term aesthetics.

COMMON QUESTIONS

Pilot Aviator Outdoor Stair Lift FAQs

Answers to common questions about the Pilot Aviator Outdoor, including weather protection, power requirements, maintenance and installation.

Can the Pilot Aviator Outdoor be left outside in the rain?

Yes. The Pilot Aviator Outdoor is specifically designed for exterior installations and normal outdoor weather conditions, including rain and humidity.

However, outdoor-rated doesn’t mean maintenance-free. We recommend using the protective cover when the lift is not in use to help protect the seat and controls from rain, dirt and prolonged sun exposure.

How well does the Pilot Aviator Outdoor hold up in Florida's climate?

The Aviator Outdoor is designed for exterior use, but Southwest Florida’s intense sunlight, humidity and coastal salt air can affect the appearance and condition of outdoor equipment over time.

Regular cleaning, using the protective cover and periodic maintenance can help extend its service life. For customers particularly concerned about long-term cosmetic appearance, we may also recommend considering the Handicare 1000 Outdoor.

What happens if the power goes out?

The Pilot Aviator Outdoor operates on rechargeable batteries, allowing it to continue running during a power outage while sufficient battery charge remains.

The batteries normally recharge automatically when the lift is parked at its charging position. Once electrical power returns, charging resumes.

Does an outdoor stair lift need an electrical outlet?

Yes. Although the lift operates on batteries, it requires an electrical supply to keep them charged.

A suitable, weather-protected outdoor electrical connection is needed. If one isn’t already available, a qualified electrician may need to install it before the stair lift installation.

Florida Home Access will assess the electrical requirements during your home survey.

Can the Pilot Aviator Outdoor be installed on narrow exterior stairs?

Possibly. Suitability depends on the staircase width, available landing space, rail position and the user’s mobility requirements.

The seat, armrests and footrest can be folded when the lift is parked to help reduce the space occupied.

We’ll measure the staircase and check whether sufficient clearance remains for safe access.

Can the Pilot Aviator Outdoor have a folding rail?

No. The Pilot Aviator Outdoor does not offer a folding or hinged rail.

If the rail would obstruct a doorway or walkway, a custom curved outdoor stair lift with a 90° or 180° parking turn may provide an alternative.

We’ll assess the available space and explain the options during your home survey.

How much maintenance does an outdoor stair lift need?

Outdoor stair lifts generally require more attention than indoor models because they’re exposed to rain, humidity, sunlight and environmental debris.

We recommend keeping the rail and equipment clean, using the protective cover and arranging periodic professional maintenance.

Florida Home Access offers stair lift maintenance services throughout Southwest Florida, including inspections of the batteries, charging system, safety devices and mechanical components.
