Thankfully, our experienced technicians are here to ease those worries.  Their comprehensive understanding of the step-by-step processes involved in installing a stairlift will put your mind at ease.

The importance of surveying the staircase prior to installing the stair lift.

Before installing a stair lift, it is important to take into account the features of your staircase and environment to determine the best model for you and your home. There are several aspects that need to be examined when selecting the right stair lift.  These include:

Straight or curved?  This will largely be decided by the configuration of the staircase however, there are some circumstances where either a straight or curved lift could be used.

Obstructions at the upper or lower landings.  If there are obstructions in the way such as a door or walkway, you may need additional equipment such as a folding hinged rail or zero instrusion brackets to keep these areas clear.

Parking space.  It’s important to consider where the lift will stop and the upper and lower landings, does this leave adaquate space for foot traffic?  There are a number of options available to overcome challenges like this such as models with continuous charge which allow you to park the lift out of the way when not in use.

Available power.  All modern stair lifts run off batteries which is safer and means the lift will work even in the event of a power outage.  However, the recharge the batteries, a 110V outlet is required close to the stairs.

Can you install a stair lift yourself?

For many, there’s great satisfaction in taking on a do-it-yourself home improvement project or asking family for help. However, when it comes to safety and efficiency, installing a stairlift is best left up to the experts. During the process, there are several important considerations that require attention such as connecting a power supply securely, properly aligning tracks and brackets and confirming an optimal angle for obstruction-free access. Frequently asked questions on stair lift installation

Will a stair lift damage my stairs?

For indoor stairlifts, there might be small holes left in the stair tread where the brackets were drilled. However, these can usually be filled with ease and barely noticeable afterwards.

If your equipment was installed on carpeted stairs, a slight indentation may be left; but this should dissipate over time as you use the stairs regularly. Similarly, if your carpet has faded with age, then you may notice a colour variation between sections that once were beneath the brackets and those that weren’t.

Finally, if an outdoor stairlift is removed from a stone or tiled surface, it’s possible some visible marks are present; however they can typically be taken care of without much hassle and will not make an unattractive mark on your property.

How long does it take to install a stair lift?

You might be surprised how quickly and effectively a professional can install your stairlift. Typical installation times for straight stairlifts run just a couple of hours and a curved stairlift takes less a day – not only do we set it up, but we will take the time to show you and other family members how to use, clean and maintain your stairlift safely.

How is a stair lift attached to the stairs?

The rail is securely attached to the stair treads and firmly fixed into place using brackets to ensure there’s no damage done to the bannister or walls surrounding the staircase. As an added bonus, we also make sure that the rail is not too close to either one so as to avoid any scuffs and marks when in use. Rest assured knowing you have professionals on hand who will guarantee a safe and secure installation every time!
